How Brød Cooperativet brought order to a 4am bakery operation with Mover

Brød Cooperativet delivers bread and pastry to Coop stores nationwide before sunrise. Mover's TMS synchronizes production, loading, and delivery down to the vehicle and the shelf, turning a bottlenecked loading dock into one coordinated sequence.

Company facts

Brød Cooperativet is an industrial bakery supplying bakeoff and final bread and pastry products to Coop outlet stores across the country. Deliveries happen before most of the country wakes up, and the operation behind that timing runs through Mover's TMS.

A 4am bottleneck with no room for error

Like other shippers depending on external carriers and their own systems, Brød Cooperativet faced the same visibility gap. But this operation carries an added layer – deliveries go to professional recipients in off-hours, so drivers need specific keys, alarm codes, and access instructions just to get into a store before it opens. At the bakery, drivers pick bread and pastry stacked on sheet pan racks in the dark hours before dawn and telling apart the dozens of variants needed for one route versus another was left to memory. With more than 45 routes to load and room for only 12 vehicles at the dock at a time, loading became a daily bottleneck, with waiting time, confusion, and friction between drivers competing for the same space. The cost showed up downstream, in stores not replenished with the right products at the right time.

Sequencing loading like a production line

Mover's system plans and orchestrates arrival, loading, and departure so the right products load onto the right vehicle in the right sequence. Driver instructions, including the site-specific keys, codes, and access details each store requires, live in the driver app instead of in a driver's memory or a paper list.

"It used to be a messy operation," Asbjørn says. "Now everything is sequenced."

A dock with no slack to work with

Synchronizing this wasn't a standard rollout. Forty-five routes competing for 12 loading positions leaves no room for a generic schedule, each route's arrival, load, and departure has to be sequenced against the others in real time, or the bottleneck just moves rather than disappears. Mover's team worked through the bakery's physical layout and production rhythm to build a sequence that holds up under that constraint every single morning, not just on a good day.

Every driver, every route, measured the same way

Driver accuracy is now trackable and benchmarked across all drivers and routes, and task time is calculated for each part of the order journey, from pickup at the bakery to replenishment at the store. That gives Brød Cooperativet a clear, comparable view of where the operation runs well and where it does not.

"We used to have many failed or missed deliveries," Asbjørn says. "That's not the story anymore."

Getting the bakery's most valuable equipment back

Sheet pan racks are not incidental to the operation, they are production equipment, and losing track of them slows the next bake and adds cost. Mover built specific functionality to ensure the correct racks load onto the correct routes and to track their return, closing a loop that used to depend on drivers remembering to bring the right equipment back.

“Having materials return on time is crucial for production and cost," Asbjørn says.

A calmer dock, better mornings for drivers

The synchronization at the loading dock changed conditions for drivers too. Instead of waiting in line for dock space to open up, or heading out without the keys or codes a stop requires, drivers get what they need before they leave.

"Drivers are happier now that they get the information and materials they need," Asbjørn says.
